The 71st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place from May 11th to May 15th in Burgas. Bulgaria will host the contest for the first time.
Why Burgas?
Just hours after Dara won the 70th edition of Eurovision in Vienna in May this year, the Municipality of Burgas expressed its desire to host the next edition next year. Varna—Dara's hometown—along with Plovdiv and the capital, Sofia, also announced their bids. A committee consisting of representatives from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes Eurovision, and the Bulgarian National Television (BNT), which will organize the Bulgarian edition, determined the host city. In the first stage, the bids of Varna and Plovdiv were eliminated. Burgas and Sofia reached the final stage.
On August 13th, Milena Milotinova—Director General of BNT—announced the winner: the city of Burgas. Thus, the seaside city is already preparing to welcome the performers and their teams, journalists, and the thousands of fans of the contest in May 2027, who will come to watch the two semi-finals and the grand final, and to cheer for their favorites!
